It’s time for a blog post, and to bring you up to speed! The Volvo continues to take shape. I have updated the front grill, got the steering animation working, improved the flow of the car body and in particular the shape of the rear wings is much improved. The bonnet is now a more accurate shape. I have also got the model into CM showroom and into AC with some borrowed physics, and I am writing a car description and getting logo’s sorted. I also continue in communications with PM3DM so that this car slots into the SuperTourer line up! It’s a long journey ahead, but I am happy with where we are travelling to. Next level on the Australian Adventure. A lot of trial and error recently on my edition of Sandown Raceway! This is in terms of elevation, kerb heights and physics mesh. I have multiple sources of data; some satellite view, some Google Earth 3d terrain, some of a previous rendition by another 3d modeller (with permission), and on-board videos. Each has a slightly different variation and making the track feel right is a tough task! Currently I am working to get the kerbs in and then I will move on to near-terrain and walls/barriers. The Wishlist is out of control… If time was unlimited what would you create towards sim-racing? What matters to you as a racer and motorsport fanatic that you would want to bring to sim-racing life? In other words, what would be on your wishlist? I make no promises at all, about tackling any of these, though thought it fun to share what I am interested in. So here’s mine: - Cadwell Park, Kyalami, Palmer Motorsport Park, Ledenon, Sonoma, Suzuka, Portamao, Barber, Hungaroring, Indianapolis, Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Albert Park. - Volvo 850 Estate, Volvo 240 Turbo, Radical SR1/SR3, & more 1990’s Touring Cars! Would be good to hear what other people’s Wishlist entries are… Let’s get back to reality… here is a gallery of recent progress:

The Springvale suburb of Melbourne, Australia, is home to a rather special motorsport venue. 1.9ish miles of changing tarmac surfaces, suspension testing kerbs, long straights with punishing braking points, and the echos of the V8 supercars. This is, The Sandown Raceway. Inspiration to work on this circuit, initially as a mod for Assetto Corsa, came a few months ago, with Daniel Ricciardo posting a video of him thrashing a Holden Sandman V8 round this track - which I retweeted at the time. Discussion with @learie, originally allowed permission for a conversion of work completed a few years ago for rFactor, however since this discussion, his mod has been used more as a handy elevation tool, working side by side with Google Earth, to inform my rendition of Sandown. Thank you @learie for enabling me a little head start in this modding process. More progress updates to come... |
